ABOUT ME

I was raised in central Arizona, surrounded by cotton farms and the Sonoran desert. My family originated in Northern Mexico and Texas and their stories migrated with them through the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands. Our histories and relationships with land, community, and family play integral parts in my writing interests. I currently live in southern Arizona, where I direct a university academic writing support program.

I have extensive experience working with, researching, and writing about diverse Borderlands issues in both creative and academic writing. My interest is in the ways that identities and experiences intersect, and how individuals and communities use story to build resilience, maintain identity, and persist.

I am a poet and essayist with numerous publications. I am currently celebrating the birth of my first book, Not Enough, Too Much. I have had the honor of working alongside artist activisits responding to global issues, including Poets Responding to SB 1070 and Sowing the Seeds de Tucson.

My professional background includes working with non-profit organizations, academic institutions, and independent contractors. I have worked closely with writers of various genres and backgrounds, serving as an editor, writing specialist, researcher, and publication specialist.

I have a number of publications and have presented my scholarship at national conferences.

lie at the heart of the community life and community development.”

In 2009 I stumbled upon a notice about Sowing the Seeds of Tucson writing group. I reached out and the co-founder, Elena Díaz Bjorkquist, invited me to attend the upcoming Mujeres Conference the group was holding. From that moment, I found myself part of a wonderfully supportive, creative, and fierce community of women writers. This group published 2 anthologies, held conferences, represented at national events, facilitated community programs, and so much more. I thank the creator for this group because these women lifted me as a writer when I had forgotten how to rise. They will always be my comadres.
